Minimizing Impacts

Lehigh Hanson is in the early stages of planning at its Scott Property. As planning progresses, Lehigh will work with the community and approving authorities to develop mitigation measures that will reduce potential impacts. Lehigh believes that the most effective tools to address potential impacts are clearly identified application requirements and performance standards.

While mitigation measures are still under consideration, the following initiatives will be implemented to help inform them:

Description Review in Progress Proposed Mitigation Measures Proposed Site Monitoring
An NIA will help determine how operations should be designed to meet local noise bylaws. Results to be shared once available. Mitigation measures to be determined based on study results and public engagement findings. Monitoring to be determined based on study results and public engagement findings.
Description Results Proposed Mitigation Measures Proposed Site Monitoring
This assessment will help determine how the proposed operation will be designed to meet Alberta Air Quality Objectives. Study in progress. Results to be shared once available. Mitigation measures to be determined based on study results and public engagement findings. Monitoring to be determined based on study results and public engagement findings.
Description Results Proposed Mitigation Measures Proposed Site Monitoring
A TIA determines if traffic caused by the project is allowable and possible with existing infrastructure or with proposed upgrades. As a result of the proposed conveyor system, traffic impacts related to the development are anticipated to be negligible. Review in progress. Results to be shared once available. Mitigation measures to be determined based on study results and public engagement findings. Monitoring to be determined based on study results and public engagement findings.
Description Results Proposed Mitigation Measures Proposed Site Monitoring
A VIA will help determine how the project should be designed to minimize potential visual impacts to neighbours. Study in progress. Results to be shared once available. Mitigation measures to be determined based on study results and public engagement findings. Monitoring to be determined based on study results and public engagement findings.
Description Results Proposed Mitigation Measures Proposed Site Monitoring
An BIA will help determine how the project should be developed to minimize or eliminate potential impacts to natural habitats. Study in progress. Results to be shared once available. Mitigation measures to be determined based on study results and public engagement findings. Monitoring to be determined based on study results and public engagement findings.
Description Results Proposed Mitigation Measures Proposed Site Monitoring
This assessment will determine site characteristics and provide insight for operational designs to help protect water sources and effectively manage drainage. Study in progress. Results to be shared once available. Mitigation measures to be determined based on study results and public engagement findings. Monitoring to be determined based on study results and public engagement findings.
Description Results Proposed Mitigation Measures Proposed Site Monitoring
This assessment will help determine how the project can be designed in a way that considers existing impacts from other operations. Study in progress. Results to be shared once available. Mitigation measures to be determined based on study results and public engagement findings. Monitoring to be determined based on study results and public engagement findings.

In addition to the technical studies, Lehigh will also complete a Market Assessment and Fiscal Impact Assessment during the planning process. The Market Assessment will review growth projections and regional demand for high quality aggregate, while the Fiscal Impact Assessment will determine how the project will generate financial benefit to the local community, RVC and the region. The results of these studies will help inform project design.
